Want to start blogging but have no idea where to start? Do you worry about not knowing what to say? Or even if you know what you want to say you just dont know how to word it in a blog? Did you know blogging is SO EASY? Here are a few tips to get you starting to blog!
How to Title Your Blog
When titling your blog you need to include the bride and grooms name, the name of the venue, and the location of the venue. So for example:
Evan & Michelle Wedding at The Treasury on the Plaza, St Augustine, FL
The Shafer Wedding at The Treasury on the Plaza, Florida
The reason we do it this way is to help our SEO (search engine optimization). Just by the title alone you have giving 4 to 5 key points for your SEO. (1) your clients name. Many couple now a days will set up their own wedding websites, so if someone searches their name your blog is likely to pop up in the search engine. (2) wedding, (3) The Treasury on the Plaza (the location), (4) St Augustine (the city), (5) Florida (the state). The more key words you give in the title the better for your SEO!
This is probably what holds a lot of photographers back from writing blogs. You may feel you hate writing because you dont know what to say or even know how to word it. Well Im about to make it SUPER easy for you!
First and foremost we need key words to help your SEO. The more SEO key words we can give the better for your SEO. So remember the title I just wrote that gave you 4 to 5 key points? Guess what? We are about to make sure we use that in the first paragraph! So for an example you can say something like this:
Evan and Michelle Shafer had an amazing wedding located in heart of St Augustine, Florida in the historical bank, The Treasury on the Plaza.
If you noticed, The Treasury on the Plaza is highlighted (tagged). That is because when I created the blog I highlighted the location and linked their website directly on my blog! That is an important tip that you should not forget! Not only will that help your SEO, it is also giving the credit needed for the vendor. You never know when feature brides log in and want to know more information about that location so they can book their wedding at that location because they loved it so much!
Look how easy that was! In just ONE sentence you have increased your SEO again (first time was in the title), gave a vendor credit, and helped the next bride not only find a location but that might even seal the deal for them wanting to hire you as their photographer!
Now you can either leave it short and sweet with just one sentence and move on to adding images OR you can write a little more to help out your SEO even more! How do you do that? Simple! Just add a little more information about their wedding day! Talk about how amazing the cake was and tag that vendor, or how beautiful their flowers were and tag that vendor. Anything to help your SEO is what you want your first paragraph to be!
Now a days a lot of people hate to read or sometimes doesn't even read the actual wedding blog, all they care about are the photos. So for me I like to keep it less than 5 sentences. Majority of the time its 1 to 3 sentences and I get straight to my images.
You may think that this is the easiest part, however, this actually can be the hardest part. Picking your images isn't always easy. And once you pick your image you now have to figure out how you want them laid out. It can feel a little stressful at times. However, let me give you a few tips to help it make it less stressful.
Picking your images: When trying to decide what images to put into your blog make sure you are choosing images that are the best of the best! I like to put them in a 4 to 5 star category. I know I will not be returning to a restaurant to eat at if I personally dont give it a 4 or 5 star rating. So why would I display my work that I feel is a 1, 2 or 3 star rating? Being that we are our worst critiques actually helps out in this situation. So only display your best work!
Laying out your images: The way you would layout your images for an album is essentially the same way you want to lay out the blog. Now I dont mean lay it out on template like we do for albums. I am referring to the order in which we will lay them out in the blog. So you will start with detail shots, then getting ready shots, first look (if you have one), ceremony, family, wedding party, bride and groom photos, first dances, cake, toasts, bouquet/garter toss, reception, and finally the exit. Its important to keep everything in order according to their wedding day.
Tag your Photos: If you are including photos of the cake, flowers, church, etc. make sure you tag the photo with that vendor(s) website (just like you did in your first paragraph!)
Last but not least give a vendor list!!! Make sure to include every vendor with a link to their website. You always want vendors loving you! And they LOVE when you include them in your blogs! If they blog too, guess what? They are going to make sure they add you to their blogs! Its a win win situation!
I really hope this has been helpful and cant wait to see your new blogs!
